1838 Reserve Shiraz 2018
Purple to crimson red around the edge. A fruit bomb in its infancy the nose exhibits dark fruit flavours of freshly cut plum and some blueberry while mocha, chocolate, licorice and subtle oak ensure a highly aromatic and voluptuous nose. The palate is quite velvety in texture, with amazing fruit concentration in its youth featuring plum, chocolate, licorice with a touch of spice, perfectly interwoven oak and the perfect level of fine grainy tannin give line and length.
The Perfect Storm McLaren Vale Shiraz 2018
Opaque purple/black. Concentrated black fruit flavours highlighted by blackberry, plum, dark chocolate and espresso. This wine is much like a perfect storm; Inspiring fear or respect through being impressively large, powerful, intense, capable yet complex and mysterious. The palate is in a word smooth and focused with a big whack of blackberry and plum initially which is woven through the backbone of the wine whilst more subtle notes of dark chocolate, pepper and oak whilst firm tannins provide another layer of complexity right through to the finish.
Bromance Wines Barossa Shiraz 2017
Deep and dark core with cherry red hue. Perfumed highly aromatic nose once allowed to open up, it shows blackberry and mulberry notes initially with more complexity coming in the form of black pepper, some earthy tones and dark Barossa Chocolate. The palate has concentrated flavours blackberry, spicy plum, dark chocolate, and a touch of pepper which is intertwined with natural fruit acidity, tannin and oak. The tannins have a wonderful length and line, which ensures the wine, lingers for an extended period whilst the oak has transformed and melted into place perfectly to become a passenger allowing the natural fruit acid and notes of pepper to give additional length.
Southern Lights Marlborough Syrah 2016
This cool climate example of the varietal is all bodied and displays vibrant purple red hues. It is well stricter, showing great fruit depth balanced with a structured influence of oak and presenting fine integrated tannins.
Limb Vineyards Home Block Seppeltsfield Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017
Traditional style Barossa Shiraz, the nose displays abundant fruit with layers of plush dark cherry, black currant and a lovely earth character balanced by integrated French oak.
A full-bodied Barossa Shiraz highlighting why I feel the Western Barossa Valley produces the best fruit. It’s a big chunky old style with amazing tannins that are supported by dark fruits and balanced acidity. Notes of Cherry, licorice and white pepper adds complexity while the balance of fruit intensity and oak provide this wine with great line and length.
Draytons Family Bellevue Heritage Grand Reserve Hunter Valley Shiraz 2015
This Shiraz is amber red in colour with an attractive fruit aroma of ripe plums, blackberries and subtle oak. The palate is medium bodied, yet exhibits full spicy, peppery flavours with a soft, round tannin finish. This wine has an excellent balance of acid and fruit; it is a great representation from a vintage regarded as one of the best from the Hunter Valley.
Oxford Landing River Crossing Shiraz 2018
Dark purple in colour with red hues. Fresh plum and subtle vanilla oak with hints of violets and floral aromas. The generous silky palate has blueberry and plum fruit, complemented by soft, supple tannins with hints of milk chocolate and warm spices. Bright fruit flavours linger during the long succulent finish.A lightly spiced ragù or massaman vegetable curry would be a great accompaniment.
1838 Reserve Shiraz 2018
Fruit was sourced from several well-known growers in South Australia from what was another great vintage in terms of quality although yields were down across the region. The different sites allowed us to pick the fruit over a extended period allowing each vineyard to develop differing characters to compliment each other and also allowed us at the winery to treat the parcels individually in small ferments with longer than usual skin contact, which is always ideal. The result is an outstanding wine with obvious time and care taken with it throughout the vinification process. This wine was fermented warm and received pump overs on a daily basis during fermentation. Aged in primarily old 2-3 year old oak to add another level of complexity without over powering the fruit.
The Perfect Storm McLaren Vale Shiraz 2018
The Perfect Storm Vineyard as we have dubbed it sits high in the McLaren Vale ranges with a perfect vantage point to view the many storms that sweep in from Gulf St Vincent across the McLaren Vale region. We have hand crafted a Shiraz by hand picking fruit, crushing and fermenting in small batches and allowing extended time on skins to ensure luscious fruit flavours prevail. Following on from fermentation the wine was pressed and aged in American barrique barrels for 12 months prior to bottling with minimal filtration. Allow it to breathe if drinking early, this wine is built to last and I expect to be drinking it over the next decade.
Southern Lights Marlborough Syrah 2016
Southern Lights Syrah is sourced from an established vineyard in Marlborough’s Souther Valley region. Created with minimal intervention, handpicked and patiently aged for 18 months in 50% are French oak.
Limb Vineyards Home Block Seppeltsfield Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017
After the cold and rainy winter period in 2016 the Barossa had a spring which is one of the wettest on record. This set up a perfect 2017 crop and the mild weather pattern we encountered through veraison was ideal with top up rain fall during early 2017. The dry Indian summer finished off the growing season creating wonderful ripening conditions. The fruit was crushed, de-stemmed and left on skins in open top fermenters for 8-10 days. A slow ferment then occurred with temperatures ranging from 15-18C, the wine had open pump-overs and hand plunging to ensure fruit intensity. Once fermentation was completed the wine was pressed into old French barrels that were re-shaved just for this wine. The wine spent 24 months in oak to mature until I felt the time was right to bottle. Final barrel selection ensured only the best of the best wine made it into the final blend before bottling with minimal fining or filtration.

Oxford Landing River Crossing Shiraz 2018
The Oxford Landing Estates vineyards produce grapes perfect for fresh and varietal wines. Supplementary irrigation and canopy management are adapted to suit each individual site, in order to provide a good balance of light and shade in the canopy and maximise fruit quality.
Fermentation was carried out in a combination of static and rotary fermenters under warm temperature conditions for six to seven days. This creates balance between extracting the appropriate tannins for wine structure and retaining fruit drive and aromatics.
Warm and dry growing conditions, along with controlled irrigation of the vines has allowed a healthy crop of grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. The Shiraz harvest in our Oxford Landing Estates vineyards commenced in the last week of February and proceeded for the next month in almost perfect conditions.

"One of the steals of the year."
"If you’re looking for an ‘everyday’ red then this is the one to reach for. It’s sweet, plush, plum-shot and soft, as you’d expect, but it has far more volume and impact than you’d expect of a wine at this price level. I tasted it in a long line-up of wines and it jumped out. It’s one of those ‘not rocket science’ wines and should be celebrated as such."
