Tasting Notes:

Nice bright, spicy and fragrant shiraz that has raspberry, red plum and musky fragrance. Sweet vanilla-scented oak lifts this nicely. Really fresh. The palate's supple, ripe and has well-fitted tannins that carry plenty of raspberry and red plum fruits. Mid-weight. Best from 2020 for a decade after that.

Technical:

The 2015 Redman Shiraz is made from grapes grown on carefully hand pruned vines that are nearly fifty years old on the Redman family vineyards in the heart of Coonawarra.

The conditions leading into the 2015 vintage were excellent, with above winter and spring rainfall. Flowering and fruit set was impacted by cold and windy weather which caused reduced yields. January and February were hot and dry, however, autumn was much cooler allowing the grapes to ripen to optimum maturity.

These Shiraz grapes were steadily pick from mid-March to mid-April, and exhibited high colour density, concentrated fruit flavours and good tannin structure, but with yields being a slightly below average.

After being mechanically harvested and crushed in the field, carefully monitored fermentation, using specially selected yeast, was carried out in open concrete and stainless steel fermenters. The wine was matured in American and French oak hogsheads for fourteen months prior to bottling.

Accolades & Awards:

91 Points - Huon Hooke

"This shiraz has put on weight since the 1970s and ‘80s when it was more like 12.5% alcohol. It’s undeniably generous, bold, full-bodied and great value at the price. Spicy, herbal, plummy aromas. Soft, powdery tannins and good persistence. Relatively big for a Coonawarra, drinking well now and worth cellaring."
