"A good legacy for cabernet sauvignon in this country. A beacon in some respects. This is a wonderful release. It has this intangible energy and levity, freshness and juiciness, purity of fruit and general sense of deliciousness. It feels a bit loose knit, slightly unkempt in the best possible way, all dark berries sloshing around brined black olive, brambles, fresh blood (something gently ferrous), faint cedar and green herb. Yes thanks. The finish tightens the wine up to a gentle pucker. It has flow, vivacity and yet each sip comes with quiet authority of those very fine, lacy tannins. It’s such a great-feeling wine."

"Medium-intense blackish garnet with some evolution at the rim. Evolved and complex nose that is so much more South Australian than varietal. Nothing remotely showy here, and the alcohol is definitively not evident. Savoury balsam and dried herbs with nothing simply fruity about it at all. You could certainly drink this already and the skein of flavours is already intriguing enough to distract this taster from analysing the tannin and acid content. In build and comportment it reminds me much more of a Ridge Monte Bello than any Australian Cabernet I can think of immediately – though it will clearly continue to develop. Much subtler than previous vintages, and more dependent on Cabernet Sauvignon. Quite a triumph. My natural instinct would be to serve it from my young wine decanter but it doesn't give the impression of desperately needing aeration.”

“I admired this elegant, very complete Cabernet Sauvignon (with 1% Cabernet Franc) when I tasted it with Johann Henschke in January in London. Re-tasting it over three days only served to increase my appreciation. Especially on days two and three, when its violet perfume really came into its own. Though ripe and sumptuous, its pronounced blackcurrant with blackberry and mulberry fruit is incredibly persistent and nuanced. Beautifully integrated tannins offer little resistance, whilst rolling acidity pushes out the palate, lending great penetration to the perfumed whole, with its lifted cedar, pencil shavings (a lick of smoky graphite) and violets. Mellower, savoury undertones of cocoa nibs, tobacco pouch and mulch emerge going through. Bay leaf and a touch of mint on day three. Notes which, together with this wine’s fresh, persistent acidity, lend a drier (flavour-wise), more elegant profile than perhaps my description implies. Sheer fruit intensity, perfume and tannin maturity, rather than volume or sweetness, create a sensation of sumptuousness. With striking depth and length, this is a terrific varietal Cabernet Sauvignon from a part of South Australia dominated by Shiraz.”
