Tasting Notes:

Blackcurrants, cherries, dried cranberries and Satsuma plums feature on the nose at the forefront. Bay leaf, cinnamon, cardamon, cedar and clove combine with heightened lavender notes and hints of fresh tobacco. The palate is fine with a mineral thread. It is elegant and delicately layered. Blackcurrant and cherries feature again with a subtle cassis edge. The mid palate has supple flesh with cocoa, coffee bean and cassia leading to a graphite line and powdery tannins.

Technical:

Leeuwin Estate is one of the founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district. In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, first identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal for the production of premium wine and provided early mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan who founded Leeuwin Estate in 1974. The initial vineyards were planted by hand over a five year period from 1975. Maintaining a team of highly skilled and dedicated winemakers, Leeuwin Estate is now under the direction of two generations of the founding family.

Accolades & Awards:

94 Points - Campbell Mattinson James Halliday Wine Companion

"It puts on a good show of cedar wood, blackcurrant, mulberry and bay leaf-like flavour. It's medium in weight and well-balanced overall. and looks set to mature well into the medium term and beyond. Not a hair out of place."

93 Points - Huon Hooke The Real Review

"Medium to full red colour with a lick of purple. The bouquet is oak-driven and savoury, with an earthy, toasty overtone. It's drying and savoury throughout the palate and finishes with a firmness which owes much to classy oak. The wine has density and suave elegance and promises to reward cellaring."

92 Points - Joe Czerwinski Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Cigar box, vanilla, sage and bay leaf notes may be found on the nose of the 2015 Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon. It's intensely flavored, medium to full-bodied and firmly structured but ripe, with fine-grained tannins and a long, mouthwatering finish."

92 Points - Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front

"As a cellaring proposition there’s no problem here. There’s a boldness to the fruit, a sweetness too, plenty of complexing herb/tobacco characters and a crunch of tannin. Complex, powerful-enough, muscular, more-than-able to hold its own. I wouldn’t necessarily call it seamless but it will be thereabouts once it’s had time to mellow."
