Tasting Notes:

A burst of spicy dark fruit hits the nose with ripe cherries, plums and black fruits on the palate. The richness of the fruit is held in check by fine tannins and deft use of good oak. A brilliant wine for right now or many years in the cellar.

Technical:

A very warm and dry spring led to early flowering, veraison and harvest. The warm November temperatures were ideal for good berry set necessitating extensive green harvest (thinning) for quality. The grape ripening months of February and March were influenced by a cold “upwelling” off the coast but overall, a warmer- than-average Coonawarra vintage. We describe our 2016 wines as being at the “fuller” end of our long-term Wynns Coonawarra flavour and style spectrum.

"Deepish red colour with a tint of purple. The bouquet is subtly spicy and gently red fruited, and this flows through onto the palate where it is understated and discreet, with fine-grained tannins which are superbly harmonised. This is a very elegant, finely crafted and slightly shy wine which grows on you as you sip. It should also reward ageing."
