Fruit source, vinification, and oak maturation identical to the Exmoor Shiraz, but a step up in quality. Dark-berried fruit is the driver, with plum, blackberry and cherry in the mix, a hint of pepper to be found, and the oak merely a background note. Mouthfillng but in a supple, medium-bodied sort of way, you can enjoy this now or over the next few years with assurance.
Xanadu Wines has been producing an exciting range of award-winning, regional wines representing more than 40 years of winemaking tradition. The winery was started by Dr John Lagan, who planted his first vines in 1977 with the help and support of his wife, Eithne. Dr John named the winery after the exotic and mysterious city or place of paradise - Xanadu described in Samuel Coleridge’s famous poem, Kubla Kahn.
The luscious grapes used to craft this dazzling Shiraz were destemmed, crushed and then fermented. Post malolactic fermentation and maturation in French oak barriques, DJL Shiraz, showcases a deep purple-red hue. It exudes pleasing scents of dark berries, peppercorn, Redskins, floral and toasty oak from its fragrant nose. A sip of the wine reveals generous flavours of ripe forest fruits, redcurrants, blackberries, spice and jubey fruits. Fine tannins integrate with the full-bodied palate offering a flexible structure and persistent finish. This delicious Shiraz has been crafted to be relished, in its youth. Serve it with barbecued spareribs, grilled eggplant and aged Gouda cheese.

"Can Margaret River shiraz be described as delightful? This wine makes the argument. It’s fluid, sweetly fruited, composed, tense-enough to lend it shape but in general: calm. Berries, mocha and woodsy spice notes are the conduits. So perfectly balanced. The glory of the mid-weight red. It offers excellent buying/drinking. "
